    Brno Model 1 1950

    Hi all,

Keen to share a rifle I’ve owned for a short time now. I had been looking for one of these model 1’s for a while but hadn’t found one in the right condition until recently. I threw a Leupold on it and it has been a great shooter. I’m still finding the ammo it ‘likes’ but so far more than acceptable hunting accuracy.

    Bore is 9/10, pretty good.

I’m looking for a front sight hood and 3/4 inch leather sling for it … so PM me if you have anything that fits the bill.

Very nice. Those tikka rings are great. Could even go optilocks if you’re feeling fancy. I’m looking to put a gloss M8 or FX2 4x Leupold on my model 2. The older Brnos shoot well with Winchester 42MAX power point subs. In my experience anyway (sub MOA 10 shot groups at 100m).

Nice to see you did the same as me - used a suitably proportioned scope that didn't require the removal, and subsequent loss of the rear sight.

I looked for a long while before I got mine with most rifles being in poor nick and lots missing the rear sight. And the sellers wanted a ridiculous price out of proportion to the rifle's poor condition.

My foresight protector was non BRNO and didn't really fit and annoyed me. I got a perfect condition replacement along with other spares from a guy on Ebay. He seems to have gone now.

On all my Brno .22 rifles I put steel Ruger rings. It only takes a few minutes to alter the rings and they look really classy.

Beautiful little rifles. I had a 1951 Model 1 in walnut deluxe. They came in three different stock options; beech, walnut and walnut with checkered pistol grip. There is an online shop in Oz that sells old Brno parts but can't remember the name.

@Apocalypticaman Congrats they are beautiful handling little bits of Kit ,that l have not found a modern one that come close ,l love shooting running bunnies with mine .

I have a small collection of the early DLX Brno's & Sako's, as they are what l grew up learning to shoot with my Old Mans & Uncles etc in the 80's . They all get used ,never believed in Safe Queens of any sort .

A couple of Brno model ones 's & fives are still my favorite 22's over Model 2's l have & get used nearly weekly, still collecting Bunnies for dog tucker .Those posts l put up a few days back about spotlighting on my neighbors were all shot with Fifties Brno ones & my Five ,they clock up centuries often the Brno Model 1 at top & my old favorite model 5 l have owned for over 37 yrs.

I have no idea what is available now in the latest Ammo Apocalypse as the Farm is too far out to stuff around running around "shopping" l always just brought 5000 case loads min of 22 ammo that shot well in my rifles . If you can maybe try one of these lot & see how it shoots ,make sure to let us all know as this is exactly the type of info that should be shared more often, instead of Secret Squirrel BS .

I have a range on my Farm & a couple of years back did a ammo test across all my 14 Brno's ,results were winner was RWS Subsonic HP - that do 10 shot groups under 1/2 MOA in 8 of them & Sellier & Bellot HV HP under 0.62" at Fifty in several of the Brno model 1,2 & 5's l use. RWS Club shoots just under - 0.400"in my favorite Model 5 & slightly bigger in my old Number 1 & 3 Mod 2's .

Well done , they are incredible shooters , the Model 1 trigger isn’t the best but if you use it enough you get used to it , mine shots best with CCI subs but I have never tried RWS

@Lucky These early Brno's have a easy trigger to work on ,from memory up to 1950 they had the "non Adjustable " & after the new trigger design with "adjustment " screw. IMO even these early ones when simply shimmed are a much nicer trigger than most modern rifles after they are worked ,but they still do have a bit of over travel. I have never owned a rifle that did not require trigger work to get around lawyers standards to reach its true potential .

There should be easily found instructions on doing them on any rimfire site ,if you want a squiz & can not find one let us know as l have a good instruction article saved somewhere & l will dig it up for you .

Correct - I just received an email response and they’re not permitted to export sadly

I have a model 2 made in 1953,shoots and carry’s like a dream,3-9 Swarovski on top in tikka rings( might try the ruger ring mod though as I have a spare set)when I’m not using the open sights..will never part with it and luckily for me my son prefers the 10/22 with red dot.
