    Browning falling block rifle

Has anyone had any experience with these here? Never ever seen one before untill today. The example I saw is for sale and is very very tidy and I really liked how it felt in the hand. Only con really is it was chambered in 7rm. What would a rough price guide be for a really tidy/as new one with scope mounts etc included?

There was a browning/miroku one in a Nelson shop for sale too before. Think it was bit over $3K. It was in one of the threads on here but now lost in the mist, they were too busy drooling over the Ruger No.1 that was next to it.

2 to 3k depending on condition and how much you want it
They are usually well finished and have better than average wood

Free 5"ish of barrel length when you forget about an action that operates longitudinally, dainty as

Gidday Ryan. I have the Low-wall version of this replica in 22 K Hornet. Yes they are lovely little rifles, a 7mm RM would be pretty lively to shoot, but nice to carry. From my example and what Ive read they do shoot well.

Downsides - they are complicated "inside" and are prone to the sear spring failing (mine has this fault currently), not hard to fix but very fiddly and somewhat nerve racking. The other thing is suppressors, threading a octagonal barrel is easy enough to do but looks horrible

You could always have an octogonal thread cap made and timed to aligned with the barrel flats.
the older model B78 and earlier had 24 or so different parts, the more modern productions have that number of parts cut in half roughly. From what I read when I acquired my b78

Hi, I have one in 220 swift. I haven’t shot it yet but have fallen for single shots and added this to my Ruger No1’s and Dakota M10’s. Very nicely finished including barrel internals.
I’m having a custom stock made by Laurie Bradley for it as we speak. Only hassle I have heard with them is getting the scope mounted right. Evidently the flats on the barrels vary rifle to rifle and elevation can be challenging on some.
Overall a beautifully made rifle IMO.

It's a Winchester 1885 right? I dont like the monte carlo on the stock and would carve that off, but I approve on general principles.

Never seen one for sale in NZ, so can't really speak to a price. At a guess I would say the same as a Ruger no.1, about 3K$, but rifle prices are all over the place at the moment. For some reason second hand rifle prices seem to have doubled since the CHC shooting and subsequent law changes.

The only things model 1885 about it are the exterior profiled, it's a falling block action and it has an exposed hammer

Internally it is a totally different action to a Winchester 1885
But they have the look and can take modern high pressure smokeless loads as good as any bolt action rifle
As @Tentman mentioned they do have some small known issues
But what modern factory rifle doesn't

As mentioned you save a lot of length with no bolt action
For hunting practicality i would personally rate this model above a Ruger no.1 because the Browning has an exposed hammer
Carried with a round in the chamber and hammer at half cock

If you wanted a decent quality single shot with the looks of the original and the safety of modern construction at a modest price this is hard to beat

There was one in 243 at h anf f hamilton 6 months ago, with a nice mount and scope. And reasonably priced at around $1200.

The one I got is a 22-250. But still in Europe for now.

Everyone should have a falling block of some sort, mines a WW Greener in .222 rimmed, just so little slim and neat.
