Surely there are better options than VLD's. They are a match bullet despite the "Hunting" in the name
Personally Id never shoot a match bullet at an animal I prefer to use bullets designed for purpose.
Never had a scope issue. It is all in the prep for the shot. Had plenty of people question caliber tho.
I have learned off of better and more experienced guides than me to treat every clients shot, as if it is their first at an animal.
Set them up for the shot and inform them what to expect and do in case of a bad shot or miss.
I always warn them out that I might be a little micro managing as far as shooting goes. If it bothers them it is certainly forgotten when they have an animal on the ground.

Do what ya want! Ya will anyway.
I hear ya and shared your sentiments until I witnessed the performance of said bullets in all situations and on different animals myself.
I use them because I trust them to do the job if placed properly.
There are no magic bullets out there in my experience anyway.
The Amax is/was a favorite among many and is a match bullet.

I've used them @MSL. The ultimate "Marmite" bullet. Once bitten, twice shy.
I'd dead keen to getting proper hunting performance examples of the current range of Bergers at longer ranges. Its so hard to get objective feedback from guys willing to share the fails as well as the successes.
Just...say...the...word
Yeah hey each to there own was just a heads up incase it was something you hadn't considered,
It was certainly something I hadnt,
I guess it's a bit different for me as 85% of our clients are first timers on there first animals as that's our market.

Never encountered it, so no haven't considered it.
I will now tho when I decide on a setup.
I learned that I was far to trusting of shooting ability for a start.
So I try to eliminate any doubt by micro managing the setup and shot.
A lot of people from overseas without trying to be condisending lack the ability to shoot from any position except prone.
They can't snap shoot and need plenty of time. Took a while for me to get used to it.

So far have never had a fail with the bergers I use. Will I? Most definitely, but so far so good.
I don't like shooting at animals beyond say 450yrds. In good conditions I reckon it is the new 250 yrd shot with a good setup and high mag scope.
I mainly target chamois and Thar. They couldn't be further apart in terms of what it takes to kill or sit one down for a follow up shot.
Chamois skin is no thicker than a rabbits
Where as a bull Thar has almost half an inch of hide and plenty of thick hair before it.
It can, depending on where they bed get matted with shale and gravel causing blowups when hit with any projectile.
The hair can confuse a lot of people of where to aim. Sounds stupid but it's true. Especially if front on.
I don't buy into the myth that Thar are hard to kill. If hit properly they will expire as fast as any other animal. It's just they can have plenty of obsticals to avoid opposed to other animals we hunt here.
The projectiles I am happy with, have taken a few types of deer, Thar and chamois at all sorts of ranges out to 400ish and have so far been perfect which I admit to being sceptical of prior to using them.
