@Sideshow as promised. Yes the serial number starts with "2R"
Enjoy the photo's mate, who ever has done the work really has done a nice job, Mag is very snug with no rattle, slop or play, sits beautifully when placed in at the right height and feeds flawlessly .
Sorry about the missing paint but this is how it came .Name: bsa 4.JPG

See the top of the Mag, has like a hard plastic at each end, someone has suggested this maybe a early Tikka mag, I wonder f it was off a bigger Caliber and cut down ? I can certainly seat projectiles out as far as I want

@gundoc what's your take? When did Tikka first start getting made?
I'd love to see the inside of that.
Looks like that Allen screw is already out a fair way. @viper you may want him to take a look and give it a once over and clean bill of health.

It is an M55 Tikka mag. Quite a neat conversion job.

yup, Tikka mag, started way before I bought mine in '76. The same mag was used for the 22.250, 243 and I think 308. For the 222, they blocked it off for the shorter cases. Very nice job, dont lose the mag, you may never find another!

Cheers mate, yeah it's a bit of a one off, maybe a few of the chopper boys or forestry shooters back in the day ran them like this but not many if any ( stolen Scribe line ) are about any more.
Really lovely old girl who has probably seen a lot of work / action but with the new barrel has been given another lease on life .
I've had CZ and Tikka along with Rem's , all have been very good , safe , reliable and with a good operator behind the trigger doing the basic's all sub MOA. ( i am an average shooter , my opinion )
I really didn't expect much from an old BSA , especially from one from the later stages of the production run but even in a pretty unloved state she showed she is keen. @gundoc is currently weaving his magic on her, I haven't felt so connected and excited about a rifle for a long time, basically just a cool old gun, I fucken hate any rifle that's not accurate but this does the business, some NZ history that I feel privileged to carry .

Oh @Sideshow, Gundoc said that's also a original Tikka mag release button along with the mag, some clever and very nice work .
Let me know if you are ever down this way, catch up for a drink and veiwing. Cheers for your input.

Sorry to drag this back up again but a few forum members asked to see results after a bit of work.
A massive shout out to @gundoc for working his magic , I can't thank you enough. Hope the power came back on

So the old girl has had a trigger job, health check and suppressed and now wears a bipod.
Noise and recoil reduced , very pleasant for a centre fire to shot.

The photo's of my last group and a small downwards adjustment was made after this. 120 yrds , group measures 11 mm from widest centre to centre.
Winchester factory ammo and tired old eyes, Will get better yet but a ok starting point. There was a rabbit at 170 yrds on the way out, .......there ain't no more.
Thanks to everyone for the interest, no doubt over the years to come this old BSA will be pop up with a few animals.
    Cheers all.Name: target.JPG

whats your plan for this rifle at the moment @viper . . . dial up scope in the near future and push the range out there a bit or leave it as is and use as a general purpose setup ?

@ rossi.45 , she's all set up now, Gundoc has given it a good going over and tickled the trigger, threaded and suppressed.
My long range / short range varmint / Deer rig.
Running a average Bushnell scope 4 - 16 and according to the guy I got it off dials up well.

Some fine tuning still to be done, shooting factory ammo and saving case's, will slowly get odd's and ends for reloading.

You getting out much ? I am yet to see much impact from the new virus.

i didnt realise it was a dial up scope . . . thats cool.

i am still shooting about the same as always, 2 times a week or more if i can manage it .. . picked up another shooting spot with a good mixture of close in scrub running along wide open paddocks for LR work . . . which gave me a good excuse ( i don't need much to spend money on guns ) to modify a .22lr semi thats been spending to much time in the cupboard. @gundoc chopped the barrel back to 10.5inches & fitted a suppressor for me, very cool little carbine now & great to meet a gunsmith of such huge talent who lives so close to home.

the Virus has been very successful on my main farm . . . but not so much on his neighbours for some odd reason.

Mate cool little semi, looks very handy around the Briar bushs.
I have that same little suppressor, surprisingly effective and light.
Yeah agree, very fortunate to have someone like Gundoc in our neck of the woods, top man and very interesting to talk to. I had to make myself go home, could have stayed for hours talking
