I was going to suggest a finlight in 308 but by the sound of it he wanted a custom something so as not to be "boring"

Yes, exactly, which is why I chose two short action CRF's of reasonable price, Finnlights, bah, everybody has one.

I'm still waiting for the stock and reamer but this is what mine will consist of.

    Howa short action
    MAB 6.5mm #5 chambered .260 Rem 22"
    HighTech Stock
    Sightron SIII 3.5-10 mil/mil
Leupold qrw rings and EGW 20moa rail.

It won't make your 7.5lbs limit but won't be far off.

I know, boring, but this is my 308 Kimber, one of many I have owned.

It weighs in the picture all up 3.110kgs so about 6.842 lbs
It has Alumina caps & Neoprene over the Gunworks Duralium suppressor, so if you took them off it would be even lighter.
It has a 20" barrel so that could go down a couple to lighten it even more.
A Hunters Edge stock would make it lighter by about 150 grams.....$$$$$
    It has Talley rings & a 4.5-14 x 40 VX3 CDS.
It will shoot sub moa out as far as I have shot it, 800 yards, dialed with the CDS as would my other three 308 Montanas.......
I could get Robbie to flute the barrel & bolt but does it really need to get any lighter ?

As boring as but as practicle as too

Mine was the Custom shop mod7 350 Rem Mag rebarreled to 30-350, 6 1/4 lb scoped but less can... If it was a faster twist I would still have it as it was ...well might have done a few more mods as I have trimmed a bit out after fitting the heavier 7mm SAUM barrel and dial scope...Will put a new fluted #2? barrel when the current one is toast

Old Dan Can thats sitting on my shelf now.... Bomb Type

The old Rem Mag brass wasn't strong enough at the base...primers kept falling out

300SAUM might win over the 7mm as you could get away with a shorter barrel.. Time will tell

If you're after minimum weight and don't care about a budget then you could buy one of those Titanium short actions from the states. Trueflight #3 22" chamber it in the NZHS Wilcat because it should fit the criteria pretty well. Senator carbon stock, shorter duralium suppressor. Scope I'm not sure on? Swaro Z3 3-10 or maybe Leupold 3.5-10 with CDS maybe in some Talley rings.

    That should fit the bill.

    Dreams are free.

    How's the project going Phillipo?

I'm thinking along the same lines after having purchased a Kimber 308 & thinking of turning it into a "Bushpig" with short barrel, baby suppressor & topping it off with a compact scope with some decent optics. I'd still like enough magnification to indentify & vapourise bunnies out to 500yds so thinking a 3x9 won't cut the mustard. The only scopes that really fit from bush to varmints is maybe a Swaro 3-18x44BT or March 2.5-25x42.
