I am looking to cover most of those requirments and am in the process of building a 6.5 GM on a Interarms Mark X action I lucked onto. The 6.5 Grendel was mentioned in an AR platform but I am a bolt rifle guy for preference, and my 6.5 GM is the Grendel with the shoulder mooved forward by .05 and with the 123gn A Max loaded to 2.400 OAL rather than the 2 255. Will run a bit of a blurb later on as the build progresses.

I'd probably go for 18" ar 10, lets make it a 7-08 loaded with 140gr interbond's, i'd make it a rra ar10 standard and let the reloading make the difference for accuracy... add a nightforce 5.5-25x56 and everything is covered!

I couldn't imagine the need for 25x magnification on a hunting rifle.
Unless maybe your shooting shit out past 1000m.

Dream semi auto go to gun: A light weight AR in 6.5G, 18" barrel, middy gas system, 1-8/1-10x optic. Wouldn't be cheap.

I'm thinking of a do everything go to gun - T3 in 6.5 Swede, B&C medalist, 20MOA rail, Vortex Viper PST 4-16X50. Plus a can of some kind. I don't care if Tikka's are gay. I'm more after the caliber and nobody other than Tikka is making what I want - a factory stainless rifle with after market support in .264 cal. Not that I know of anyway. Maybe Kimber or Sako? Too expensive off the bat though. Want money left over for the other stuff.

    Hi

Pretty much any rifle with a good scope will do what you want.

This is my ''does it all'' rifle. Its like an old friend to me:

I have other rifles that can ''do more'' or ''do less''...but this dirty old tikka .284win truely does it all!

You could of course just go to a firearms shop get a rifle of your choice in 30 06, then every time you go hunting, go to your cabinet and take this one out then go to your hunting place.
This would then become your go to gun.
    Simple, Yes ?
