Interesting, I have a Remington 270 that is 1990 ish year. No primer indent on that one. Never been worked. I had been told the indent in the 7mm is one of the worst seen.

I'm also interested in who did it and cost. I've talked to several gunsmiths about having bolts bushed but could not get much interest in taking the job on.

Is it a problem? Ive got a zastava, and sako that produce little rings round the primer like that and several others that dont. Its never worried me as i just think the pins too thin. For interest my nephew owns a remington 770 not one of their finer products by all accounts but its accurate and theres no ring around the primer.

Surely the indent made by new factory rifles shouldn’t be acceptable?

Didn’t make any difference with a change in primer make. Same indent

I got it bushed by Robbie at Gunworks. $85 plus postage. Did get a quote from Dan Hardy for $400 ish. I’m not sure if he misunderstood what I wanted done but I was pretty specific abut bushing the bolt firig pin hole!

Robbie had no issues sorting it out for me.

What tangible difference does this actually make?

It is a vital safety issue in that it dramaticly reduces the chances of a ruptured primer. It is also important in some calibre coversions in order to reduce the firing pin diameter. Older firearms using lower-powered cartridges often have large diameter firing pins which are not safe with high-pressure cartridges (eg. converting BSA Martini 12/15's to .22 Hornet, M92 Winchesters to .357 Magnum, etc). High-pressure cartidges are able to overcome the spring pressure of large diameter firing pins and rupture through the pin hole (no, more powerful springs don't solve the problem!).

I have a bergara which has the same rings. They are a remington clone which are sposed to be more refined but looks like the clone was a little to good?!

I had a Parker Hale firing pin hole bushed, it got to where the primer was extruding into the pin hole and making the bolt hard to open now it's better than new,
haven't had any Remingtons done none are bad enough to cause a problem none of mine were made this century could be some thing to do with it.

Did Robbie turn down the diameter of your pin also or just bush the hole? I am planning to get my pin turned down and the hole bushed for using small rifle primer 6.5CM brass.
