The .270 is a good cal and can't go wrong with it running a suppressor. Imo there's no better all round caliber than the .308 for all NZ hunting, velocity isn't too high for close range bush hunting and still having plenty of legs out to 500y and beyond, the 168gr eldm going 2670 out of my 18" sako has stepped the old girl up, has over 1000 ft-lbs of energy out to 700y, pretty impressive for the old .308. When it comes to hunting stags in the bush during the roar the .308 definitely has the advantage over anything with the heavier 180gr bullets going at a modest speed.
