I've got a 3.5-10 SHV Nightforce on the 300saum. Its hard to fault. That or the vx6 2-12 (which is on my .2430).

The Sightron is on my 6.5x55. Good scope.

Nightforce shv 2.5-10 is what I have on my 20in 300wsm
Upgraded from a vx6 2-12, put the vx6 on my 16in 308 - illuminated ret is very good, just the vx6 clicks are extremely poor

I often wonder with all the bushpig talk these days, why the 30-06 doesnt get a mention? Same powder cap as the 284, but with a bigger whole so theoretically should be a touch more efficient.
Bit more grunt than the 308 when stocked up and heaps of factory loads for the reloading impaired.

Sambar is not all I shoot but it is a factor for getting the right setup for myself. So the con census seems to be either 308 (16") or 284 (18" or 20"). As stated I don't re load but don't see a huge difference in price to getting loads done and some factory stuff so that's not an issue. I've always had an old school way of thinking in that the bigger the slug the better but from what I've read up on a lot of it these days is the bullet construction like the ttsx. Definitely leaning more towards the 284 as it would seem to be a more rounded rifle being able to go long range but handy enough for the bush

If your hell bent on 30 cal a 30-284 as veitancam said would be just the ticket . 30-06 performance
