All round cartridge for trout, rabbits, hares, goats, ducks, plovers, deer, chamois, tahr, the odd croc, buffalo and elephant, that's a hard decision Toby

Oh, scrub bulls maybe then yeah? You could do worse than .35 Whelen. You can load some jacketed hollow point .357 pistol bullets and try them on goats! I did it with a .35 Rem FN Browning Model 1900 I had for a while.

10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

.338-06 seems alright. Does anyone have a reamer for that in NZ though?

You lazy little shit do some research. There is pretty much 3 major rim sizes, 223, 308/30-06 and Magnum. You could enlarge your current (if it is 308) to magnum if you wanted.

9.3x62 is pretty much a 35 Whelen but you can actually find brass and dies very easily.

Imma go with 338-06. I done some looking around it seems it's just a simple 30-06 through the die and it's done and DED have the dies, I see on the list. 30-06 brass isn't hard to find. 250grs at 2,500fps is nice too.

Now time to start saving and get this done. I was having a shower before and the thought actually came into my head about selling some other guns but I talked my self out of that one

Wanna end up with something like this just it won't look as nice unless I ace the stock. I'm planning on using the blank you gave me @Maca49

For a bush gun with 470 bolt face, go 338 federal

Other options on that bolt face

    22/250, 243, 260, 284 those are the standard short actions, or 30/284

    Long action : 270, 280, 338-06

You could just buy a Husquvarna from Grahame Champion for the same or less than a rebarrel and sights.
