Does anyone know if it's possible to get a chamber adaptor to shoot 22lr through something like a 708 or 308. Probably just a smoothe bore short sleeve. Accurate enough to shoot a camp possum at short range

I've seen mention of these before, no first hand experience but could be a possibility if you can get one. Info

I've had one for years .22lr in a 223Rem it works really well for practice. Roughly the same bore. I can't see it working shooting a 22 down a 7mm barrel
They pop up on to occasionally there was a 9mm set a few months ago on TM pistol length rifled barrels designed for use in a 12 gauge.
I know someone with a 22 LR set. In a centrefire wouldn't the amount of offset required for the pin to strike the cartridge rim cause issues.
Get flat base projectile loaded backwards over a light load of trailboss or pistol powder.
I have in the past used armor piecing projectiles loaded this way over 12 grains of Unique in a 303 to shoot hares.
As accurate as cast bullets and as effective.Took some to Stewart Island where no 22's are allowed to shoot the camp possums and cats.
trailboss and cast projectiles...Rob makes awesome ones in both calibres you mention..... will be just as quiet and darn sight more effective.
what Micky said, but just as a fun thought exercise, if you really wanted to make a sleeve you could get an offcut .223 barrel and machine the outside to the cartridge dimensions of the centrefire rifle, then ream a .22H chamber in it.
want to check for accuracy before firing it through a suppressor
A subsonic round in 7-08 or 308 is a better proposition I think, using something like Trailboss / Tin Star or 6+ gr of fast pistol powder - Look for loads online.
I use 3gr of Viht N310 with an 85gr powder coated cast bullet for about 1000fps in my 6x45. Needs a bit more elevation than a supersonic load (a BDC reticle is handy to help avoid knob twidling) but is accurate enough to 100m. I need to increase elevation by about 7 MOA for 50m zero.
