Changing AR to A cat from E.

So, my life circumstance have changed and I need to sell an AR. I have 2 on E cat and can somewhat manage to live with the one. I posted it for sale here in E cat form and had no interest at all, then I got interest from someone if it was a cat. So I thought, well, I've never seen anyone have an issue with changing it back to a cat, only that they've been told they can't change it back to e cat again themselves.
My AO has just told me that they don't like doing it and that she has heard of very little cases of them ever doing it and needs to call PHQ to see what they say.
You'd think they'd be happy as Larry to have less E cats right?
What have your experiences been with doing this?

It usually straight forward, my mate is currently doing the exact same thing. All you should have to do is attach an A cat approved stock, take the lower in to prove this also completing the appropriate paperwork and they will remove the E cat status from the rifle. Sounds like your AO is putting it in the too hard basket.

I suspect the reason they may be hesitant is because of potential further proposed law changes.

The ar i purchased was previously E cat , he had to put it into A cat configuration and have his arms officer take it off the register before i could purchase it, was a quick and easy process

That's what I thought, anyone else's go through this easily?

My A-cat stock is already attached and ready to go visit the AO.

Always take it in with a mag in it, must make sure to change it to a smaller one though...

No, but seriously I just take in only the lower.

I have done exactly what you're talking about when my old man wanted an AR. I purchased on that was on E, changed the stock over before I had the permit to procure completed, then told the AO that I wanted it removed from my E. Done. No problems.

    As I suspected.

Went and saw her, she said PNZHQ told her that I would have to hand in the parts that previously made it E cat. I told her that I'd already sold them and they were gone.
She then said, well you need to write me a explanation of what you want to do and what you've done to convert it and done with the old stock etc to leave as notes on my firearms licence at their end.

    Righto?

Oh great, done what she asked and got this as a reply....

    Thanks for the narrative.

I need the details of the person/s you sold the stock and pistol grip to as I need to follow up on these parts seeing as you could not supply them. I can then amend that firearm in our system and on your licence to reflect that it is now an A cat item. It will no longer be “linked” to you but will show up as having been possessed by you.

    Cheers

Well that's a professional reply. That's really what you want in a AO... do what you are told to do and you get sarcasm in return. Sounds like somebody needs to attend the communications seminar entitled "Communicating with the public: Good manners cost nothing and bad manners just makes us look like arseholes". Not because those seminars work but as punishment.

Since when does purchasing E-Cat parts require notification to the police?

When I brought my AR off a forum member his AO said this wasn't possible. So I got my dad to buy it on his E and his AO had no problem swapping it over to A. Dad's AO wanted an explination of where the E cat parts where going cos they could potentially be used to create a scary dangerious E. It's a fair question. He said he was keeping the bits for us on his E cat AR and they were happy with that.

    Yes that's bullshit.

Politely ask for the relevant regulations that cover this then take if from there.

Knowledge is power in this instance
