The Tikka will probably appreciate in value (if you look after it). Even though the Ruger is a good rifle, I don't think that would.

Could be coincidence, or deliberate. If the Tikka has been on the rack for a while maybe the asking price was reduced to make sale more likely.

gladdens me old hunters heart all the praise for the tikka 595 and 695 yes classic firearms and even better some have very good wood if you do panic about weight then a composite stock will be available I have had two a 595 in ,222 got two 7 shot mags for it really good goat culling set up and won the Forest service shield at the DOC shoot with it - and had a 695 in .270 wish I had never sold it but the Sako 85 that replaced it was a very nice rifle

well i missed out on the tikka....... i spotted on the saturday , had the cash on the sunday arvo (too late to make the trip down ) rang to check it was still there this weekend just gone ...... "sorry sold on tuesday" some other hawkeyed customer spotted it and snaffled it .

so i have bought a ruger the first 308 in 44 years of firearms ownership..... i have a question does anyone else do direct to action rings other than talleys , i know where i can get some i just like to check my options

DNZ Game Reaper or Leupold will probably do a direct mount, but for what it's worth I'd go picatinny rail as it helps sort a lot of issues like some scopes not having much room to adjust eye relief if you put them in direct mount rings.

Don't kick yourself about the Tikka. Horrible old heavy things and spares hard to come by now. The new Tikka/Sako are not big on supporting old products so you are at the mercy of the Beretta dealer if they stock any spare parts like extractor, ejector etc.

Considering a Teslong borescope that connects to your phone can be had for like £50 new, I'd get one and use it. Video and pictures can be recorded and sent off via your phone if you don't know what to look for.

Those wearing rose tinted glasses will always pipe up when they hear about old rifles, but truth is a rooted barrel that has not seen a cleaning rod in the last 20 years will never shoot as well as a brand new one that has been done to a decent standard.

The M595/M690/M695 all had a very weird bedding system, if you want to call it that. Basically a flat bottom receiver with a circular recoil lug. Mousetrap if I ever saw one! Only been 'bested' by Sako's later effort on the 85 involving a cantilevered recoil lug relying on wood screws...

Ruger sells plenty of rifles, took over some of Remington's market share in the US after it went bust on multiple occasions.

So for the naysayers it may not be as Purdy as a wood blued tikka but ......
