Theres only 2 real issues with the Sako 85 .223 mag length if you want to use the longer pills and case ejection problems. The 2 .223's I've had both had the ejection issue. Either the case hit the scope casue I like them low as possible and dropped back into the open action or would just drop the case in the action.

I had this ejection issue with my sako a7 roughtech (7RM) with 3-18 vx6hd, sent it to beretta who refused to accept there is a major flaw with there rifles/ejector positions (although Robbie tiffen told me this also) and there resolution was putting it on stilts where it was ridiculously high and laughable, bottom line was they told me you can’t mount the leupold vx-5/6HD scopes on the a7 or 85, wasn’t surprised at the pathetic outcome, it’s basically the size of the turret being the issue aswell, oh and was told there action design was around well before the new leupold so it’s leupold fault... bottom line be very aware of the scope you want to mount, the height of rings before investing thousands, the a7 and 85 possibly 75 also have the design flaw, hope this helps someone out.

Interesting, I don't notice rounds hitting my scope on my 85 finnlight 7mmRm but can see where you're coming from. If you don't cycle it quick it'll drop the brass in the action though.

I had zero issues with my 308 85 either tho my 75 doesnt feed as nice as the 85.

Yeah I don't even view the dropping brass as an issue either.
It's a hunting rifle not a steel gun. Bang, quick reload in case it requires follow up, job done.

Thats probably due to the different bolt face configuration Cam, the 85 works more like a controlled feed with that cutout on the bolt face.

I was using Talley lows and the brass would hit the windage turret and drop back into action, loaded or empty round didn’t matter, wasn’t even close to a clean ejection, although it doesn’t seam consistent with others, the issue is there and good to be aware of.

None of the Sakos I’ve had have done that, even with rails on top over the ejection port

No I’m idly considering the ideal of making a semi-weight fast-twist .223 as a home for my PMII and for LR futzing, probably
just using a full-size used Howa short action from somewhere + Wilddog stock that is in my safe + custom barrel + mag kit with Accurate Mags for decent COL.

Just order a Carbon Wolf in 6.5 Creedmoor. I want to know if they are good

If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

You guys should stop buying tikkas and sakos and get brownings then you won’t have to sell them on Trademe after 50 rounds because of all your problems I have just read in this thread.
Buy anything, it’s a 223 they all work. Ammo and twist rate is usually the biggest factors in a 223.
