Slotted screws are disappearing in general, which is great as they are dog shit.

You don't seem to see too many turrets that are adjustable with a coin anymore, most scopes are finger adjustable.
Which again is great as I used to find the only thing that would reliably fit the slot was a coim, and I never had one when out shooting.

Nothing wrong with slotted screws, you just need the correctly sized screwdriver (like any other screw) and use it properly - they are not idiot proof. I'm going ProudKiwi (Gawd help me if I actually end up like the cynical old shit he is) here but if you can't select and make good use of a slotted screwdriver appropriate to the task, do you think you should be handling weapons??

That Sako key thing was a PITA. Know a guy who 4wd for 4 hrs up a major Canterbury river for a few days and on arrival unpacked to find his bolt was locked and he had no tool with him to unlock.

The problem is that you need 20 different sized screw drivers in different widths and thicknesses to suit what ever odd ball size slot the manufacturer decided to make. My dads JW15 has 3 screws all with different sized slots that hold the trigger guard on. I'd much rather need a single torx or allen driver than need 3 flat head screw drivers.

Usually the problem comes when someone doesn't have the correct sized screw driver, so "makes do" and buggers them up.

Non firearm related but old flat head wood screws are shit house as a flat head bit in a cordless drill doesn't like to stay in the slot, especially after years of people" making do" with what screw driver they had.
When several better options exist there is no good reason to keep using them.

Mixed value scopes - Mil/MOA. I don't know why this was an acceptable thing for so long and why it has taken so long to die.

    Browning BOSS.
I think if they were to reintroduce it now on the larger cartridges it would be accepted more readily. Especially with the right thread.

I'd be brave enough, once I can walk any useful distance again. Was bloody difficult to not buy that Sako that the #27gang ringleader was flogging off. But we wont tell him will we?

So true, but what about AR15s attached to Chainsaws, much better handgrip position.

"Which again is great as I used to find the only thing that would reliably fit the slot was a coin, and I never had one when out shooting." @Beetroot I used to put a 5 cent coin under one of the turrets on my 22 for just that occurrence. Still there
