    Yeah, this last drought was a bad one.
    One interesting observation was you never knew what condition an animal was going to be in, you could see two deer on a hillside, one would be very skinny, and the other quite fat, as if they did not share where the best wallet/food was.

    I did notice every hind shot supporting offspring had shrunk in size, unlike other species

    Certainly a fawn that stays on the teat sucks a lot of condition off a hind that has sparse feed. Nature doesn't help either as the instinct for the hind is to feed the fawn longer befor weaning as she wants it to survive the hard times.

    That explains why we saw so many 'late' fawns this year.

    I did not find any dead fawns this year though, perhaps the pigs ate them, - lots more pigs around this year, especially behind the 1080
