    @Flyblown

    You'd need a barrel nut tool. Head space gauge and some way to torque the barrel to spec. For it to be safe.

    Not me, but my cousins in the US. They're mad Savage fans and have all the gear, and swap out barrels like I swap underpants. At least once a week. It's very simple. There's plenty of informative YouTube videos.

    Yup, I change barrels. Not as regularly as underpants, but fairly often

    You need a barrel nut tool (get the one that is double sided, so you can handle older barrel nuts as well).

    Then you need a decent barrel vice. I clamp the barrel, not the action. Made a single vice with a 30mm hole, and several hardwood spacers to cater for all my different barrel profiles. A bit of newspaper helps to "grip" the barrel as well.

    And lastly you need go gauges for the calibers you intend to swop.

    My "vice" bolts to the towbar on my van, so I can change barrels at the range etc.

    If you need to get a different bolt head for changing calibers, have a look at PTG, they make awesome Savage bolt heads.

    We got a savage spanner , barrel wise and a few gauges at workshop at Dpt if some want their barrel change. We swap tikka barrels regularly.
