If our leader has her way it will be a Lada with one colour choice.

    That is an excellent point.

I don’t need one but I certainly prefer the zoom for my use.

Just spent good money finally buying a decent optic after messing about too many times with lower cost options.

Depends on what model scope you're looking at. The S&B's have quite a lot of tunnelling at low magnifications. Whereas something like your Swaro Z6's or Z8's have incredibly forgiving eye boxes with no tunneling whatsoever. This was perhaps exaggerated by switching to a S&B after having used Swaros for a while.

So a higher zoom ratio can either be a 'nice to have'...or a disappointment. Lol

A red dot/holo sight + scope combo sounds like a practical option. But there's no way in hell I'd be running that on a traditional hunting rifle. Would look far too tacticool, and less is more when you're in the field.

I agree it feels tacticool. I think if they make the iron sight or red-dot sight as a built-in part of the scope itself it would look less weird.

80 years ago some hunter may tell you that putting a scope on a hunting rifle was too tacticool (whatever the equivalent work was back then)

The VX5/VX6 is better in every single way than the VX3.
Ignoring the zoom range the glass and FOV are hugely improved.

But you are correct in saying you don't need a huge zoon range if you have a good a fOV.
The Vortex AMG is only a 4x zoom range but is immensely popular due to all the other specs, the main thing that makes it a viable option is the huge FOV, the AMG has a wider FOV on 6x than most competing scopes on 5x.

VX3 are generally smaller and lighter than others with the same top end mag.
For a lot of hunting, this could outweigh optical superiority.
Also, being half the price of vx5/6 or z5/6 is also often a deciding factor but not so much in competition with vortex, Burris bushnell..
