Experimental 20 Round Magazine for P14

    Hi all,

Experimental 20 Round Magazine for P14 (Pattern 14).

Has anyone ever seen or know of anyone that has one of these? Do you think it would be possible to get the drawings and sizes for one of these magazines? Any info would be a great help

    Cheers,

An interesting "object" but IMHO impracticable, otherwise either the Brits or the Yanks would have adopted it.

As an aside, if Constable Plod frowns at .22's equipped with a magazine >15, I imagine he would go mildly apoplectic and blue in the face when encountering a 20 round 303.........(or 306 if it was a P17).

Was it on this site, I read of a mod to fit a 30 round bren gun magazine to Lee Enfield?

As long as it's manually operated constable plod has to let you have any size mag you want-mag size restrictions only apply to semi autos

I looked into the Bren mag adaption, probably too much work involved. New plan is to splice two mags together for around 15 rounds.

The reason I think it would be great is for service rifle shooting. Instead of struggling to reload quickly with the normal stripper clip I could have it all loaded in the 20 round mag and be much more competitive.

As it was not std issue I doubt it would meet match code 4 and you would be dumped into open class

Hmm. I've been doing some research on it and apparently it was an additional accessory offered. I don't know if that was true but I wonder if an original could be argued that it was service issued. But yeah mate you are correct.

I would have thought anything that could hold 20 .303 rounds would poke into the ground shooting from prone

It doesn't look to long in the photos. If they allow Canadian prone it might make it more stable lol.

I think the term "in general issue" and the "advantage rule" would come into play

They were set up for SMLE's and P14's, but never made it past trials (due to the longer mag completely stuffing the rifle's balance and handling for things like bayonet work) and were almost all eventually destroyed. Better ammo QC fixed most of the ammo problems (also being suffered by the aviation boys who individually hand loaded machine gun belts after trying each round for chambering first).

Any surviving original mags are like rocking horse turds and command a massive staggering price...
Bugger :S Thanks for the info Mauser. Wish I had one of those horse turds to try
