80gr and 100gr super x in the .243 are both excellent grouping.

150gr in the .308 also very good groups. Found them better than several more expensive offerings. But I don't have any long range terminal effect experience with either. Work really well for what I have needed though not a cheap as used to be.

I used to buy them from the local Farmlands store. They could cut some pretty sharp deals, but sadly all the 'Firearms BS' caused them to stop selling any ammunition.

Nobody mentioned 168gr ELD-X yet? My Mauser isn't fussy but really likes them and have a mate who tipped over a feral bull at oh-shit range with them so they work alright

No such thing as the 168eldx. You mean 178eldx or 168eldm?

I would think 400 yards is getting to be a stretch for factory ammo. I shoot 150 grain corelocts in my Bergara . Works well at bush hunting ranges.

I would like to think I could get out to 400 with a bit of practice, it will be an interesting.
I would like to hit 500 yards.

Not a comment on your shooting. Rather a reflection on the limitations of factory ammo. This was illustrated to me after reloadir my 243.
I've always used 100gr corelocts. After loading up some 95 grain targex, the difference is night and day between reloads and factory ammo.

That's a very fair comment, shooting wise i am ok. Shot rabbits at 450 mtrs with handloads 223.
Kinda hoping to do ok with the current factory offerings.

Provided you get a good accuracy then anything from 150 to 168 will do the job.
I found that after 10 years of shooting the 150 in the 308 and then stumbled onto the Hornady 168 eldm packet ammo the difference was huge!

Yeah let's get the rifle back and start pushing it out.
5o00 the goal. 600 plus the goal.

Before I went to the Toby shoot my longest shot had been about 200, was hitting the 600 repeatedly, you might surprise yourself. Can't recall what ammo I had, think I may have picked up a few boxes of s&b going cheap but it was definitely factory

400yards is perfectly do able any day of the week with factory ammunition in a .308win yip you will need to have worked out the drop, and know the range, but backbone holdover wouldnt be a huge amount out.depending on how you are zeroed...over the years the times Ive missed is when putting daylight between the x hairs and the meat...get closer if you cant do it without holdover...or range n dial....and if you doing that, well as long as you can hit what you pointing at (shoot some rabbits with the .308 to PROOVE IT WORKS) and you wont look back.

Best I could do with my 16 inch barreled 308 and Cheapest SAKO factory ammo today was 805m. Ran out of dial movement on the 2-10 VX5 and a little kentucky windage needed but went 2 for 2.
I think your 600 plus is too easy for you
