I'd steer clear of the brand all together. They are way over priced, under performing and poorly designed. This company is so far behind on the technology it is laughable, they have only just started to use the likes of 18650 Li batteries.

Lenser LED torches? I have had one for about three years and don't see anything wrong with it? (I did get a $60 discount on it at the time).

They just don't cut the mustard. The number of people I've come across that bring one out and get everyone to check how great it is, ... then have it blown completely away by a better Chinese made and branded $20 torch is unbelievable. Sure you need a different charger and batteries to the gear you'd get from the supermarket but with mail delivery from overseas being so fast and cheap who cares? Even my $20 headlamp will light up a rabbit at 100-125m and last 4 hours full noise on a charge and the spot is brighter than the trucks headlamps.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same item?

I'm referring to a hand held torch - viz LED Lenser P6, manufactured in Solingen - Germany. As stated earlier, I've owned it for three years and have used it on regular outdoor forays in various climes in NZ, Africa and SE Asia. It uses any AA batteries that I feed it and and casts a very effective and adjustable light.

It's honestly the first time that I've heard anyone, let alone multiple people, speak ill of the brand. I'm not endorsing it - simply expressing my own experiences with the product and trying to ascertain why it's failed for others?

That is a good question. They seem to be coasting along on their past reputation but unfortunately have been well and truly overtaken by everyone else. AA & AAA have nowhere near the energy density or power delivery of 18650's and above.

Correct me if I'm wrong but power delivery comes from the power source, so if the battery technology is available, a torch can only use what it is provided?

I have torches that run on the 18650 batts and the std AA/AAA versions for sale at at work.

The std AA/AAA versions out sell the other types 10 to 1 . Most people cant be bothered with odd size batts that they cant just buy at any dairy.
