Sako 85 was my first thought too. So was .458 Lott.

    Some good suggestions so far.

Flicked The Wife a pic of the CZ Carbine Synthetic .223. @hotbarrels, you're in the lead, that hit the spot.

Lots of cool lever guns come to mind, but as usual availability is the problem.

Man that Baikal double rifle (twin .223) looks interesting. Anyone handled one of these?

A Ruger Scout Rifle in .450 Bushmaster would give me a stiffy but I suspect I wouldn't have anywhere to put it if I get her one of those.

CZ 527 carbine in .223 or 7.62x39 converted to 6.5 grendel. The carbine and FS models come with open sights

Check out the Mossberg patrol rifle in .223 too..

How new does it have to be?

    https://www.trademe.co.nz/sports/hun...8f694be1e7-007

    [EDIT]

    Also:

    - What's the budget?
    - Are there any calibers you're already geared up to load for?
    - How much recoil is she likely to to tolerate?
    - Black and plastic like a PAR Troy, or wood/blue (a nice Brno with peep sight, or a 222/223 Sako perhaps)?
    - Levers? A 30-30 would be handy as, and you could pinch it too...

@Tommy, used is fine, with the obvious caveats on condition. That ZKK is what I had when I was a pubescent twerp!

Definitely after a carbine, and probably a lightweight synthetic.

The Wife has just reminded me its a "close range" requirement, she wants to get up close and personal.
