Seems still a lot of confusion over this, maybe someone could clarify.
right so heres a bit of a tinfoil hat concept....
that book under counter...lets just say for arguments sake the cops in Timaru SUSPECT that so in so has bought gun but hasnt registered it..... a quick look in book...yip hes bought something..double check register, nope oh dear he is in the shit
lets suggest the same fella has already got "all" his guns on register and drops rifle in to have suppressor fitted....6 mths later some clever dick looks at the "book under counter" of the suppressor fitting company and hello hello whats this then???? joe bloggs got suppressor fitted onto a 7mm mag serial number #13579suckymotto and he DOESNT have that rifle registered...oh dear hes in the shit
but in typing that...if and when we good law abiding folks do get around to registering our firearms, being good law abiding folks we will do them all and hope for the best in future...its a case of kay sarah sarah and not a hell of a lot we can do about it
news on radio just now, the police top brass saying ACT saying they will repeal register is just vote grabbing..WELL HELLO that says something in itself does it not??? wait n see and dont stress..no point stressing about something you can do nothing about.

Looks like dealers also have to use the online transaction form not just the book, bit of a mine field lol

When fitting a suppressor we are only required to record it in the dealer book, not online.
It only needs to be registered online if we have it for more than 30 days.

Please let us know how you get on with that - am curious as to your impression of how well it is going

I bet there’s a bit of that going on, no record of the transactions, zero proof they ever happened.

We have to use the online portal. So I can only assume that you will get hit up if buying a firearm from a dealer and then not registering your guns in 30 days.

kind of makes the magnetic strip in the FAL itself seem not so silly now afterall......so you swipe card as make purchase etc etc etc and details recorded against purchase....

    Yes 2025.
Guncity have a good video out explaining all the details but one thing I wasn't aware off was is that it's a progressive roll out.
Doesn't sound like the ability exists yet to do private sales online yet.
Also if you want to view your information you have to get another code from a police station.

Hopefully that works but if you go to guncity YouTube channel it's there.
There is a shorter version with just the highlights but it misses a few points that's worth watching.

Yup. Just be aware that we still have to record ammo purchases but it's not going onto the Police part, just internal records.

I've read over the whole thread, and the info on the website about registering, and the events that will start the clock on registering. But what i am unclear on is buying a suppressor. It is not listed as a 'major part' as far as I can see/understand, however, it looks as if it is open to interpretation (real helpful).
Would you consider a suppressor to be a 'major part' or something that would start the registering process?

As we are finding everyone has a different interpritation of all this. Im no expert but a major part to me would be a part that the firearm needs to have to fire a round. A suppressor to me would be an accesory as it can fire with or without it.
