    first thing buy it
then , apply to import it with an application to the police ( you will be approved as have i prevouisly ) copy your import authority , and send it to mate . Tell mate to put in box with stock , WITH your contact details cell , email , ;postal address . Dont leave any reason for "customs " to not be able to "contact " you lest it ends up in their hands .
Tell mate to send stock by complicit courier service such as ARAMEX who dont ask as many questions , they picked my stock up from Customs in Auckland airport . Meaning you want Aramex to do an international delivery AU-NZ .
Note though , that if the sport shop in AU get any sense at all , that your mate is going to export it to NZ , he wont walk out the door with it . Absolutely expect , to be dicked around by NZ customs and border controls if for some reason it ends up there .
He is what will happen ...... you will be tracking it , you will see it leave AU , you will likely see it arrive NZ as well and then you will wonder where it is after 5 -10 days cause it doesn,t turn up . Its at the customs holding area .... then you will need to contact them and ask politely have they got . Be ready with your contact details , the tracking ID stuff as well , some delays , and questions and proof you have got a "permit " .
Now , Know this .....they know you have one cause they have seen it in the box . Thats not goona be good enough . Now you are going to asked to send the " whole original email exchange from the police and the original authorised permit process " ABSOLUTELY do not cock this part up . Now wait for reply.... wait some more .... then you will get an email to arrange the pick up from customs .
So , once the authorising comes thru for the pick up .... its only ARAMEX who will do that NZ POST and all others will NOT PICK IT UP . So about now you are wondering why you are paying ARAMEX again to do what they were contracted to do .
Heres some advice , cop it sweet . Get the stock picked up and delivered fitst , bleat afterwards . Or do what i did got over it and Put my rifle in the stock and spent 2 hrs at the range instead . Why ? cause ARAMEX is the only courier that will move the stock in NZ .
Then you might just get lucky and ARAMEX might get the whole thing done end to end , just like DHL did back in the day , no questions , no stress , customs everything sorted .
    cheers Les

Your mate will likely need a licence to buy it there
