Dont wear your glasses when you shoot. Adjust the Ocular on the scope to suit your eyesight.

As my sight deteriorated with age (mostly close up stuff, reading etc) I started wearing progressives and pretty much wear them all the time for past 5-6 years. When looking thru scope on rifle the lense area in the glasses just won’t line up with the ocular objective on the scope. Solution is pretty simple I just adjust the ocular focus to suit my eye sight with out glasses- which means pretty much cranked right out. Then look over the top edge of glasses frame when looking thru scope, seems to work very well for me.

That is how I do it as well.

I've been wearing progressives for about 15yrs and found the poi was 2in to the right at 100mtr. Took to wearing contacts for all shooting and hunting and problem gone. Progressives are lethal for hunting or tramping as when looking where you are walking you are looking through the lower edge of your glasses which is the close-up reading area. Makes the ground out of focus and you will arse up at some stage. Contacts do a bit of both short and wrong range vision so can read GPS and scope without glasses. I take an old pair hunting to see ballistics app and dial up correct amount. Works well for me

Yep, can attest to that. Wear sunnies a lot so got them with progressive lenses. Couldn’t understand why I was nearly arsing up going down steps all the time then finally twigged. Not good for driving either. Don’t need them for reading the dash but if you flick your eyes down then back up the transition is downright dangerous. Interesting the contact thing is a solution for you. Might have to investigate that in the future.

Thanks for the tips everyone will get out and see what works. I can still see pretty well long distance without them but can read hardly anything without, hence the move to progressives. So far no problems with looking where I'm going even down near my feet. I still have reading glasses but last script was lower.

my eyes have been getting progressively worse in the last couple of years. Mainly the reading stuff. Couple of pairs of warehouse cheapies sort that but they have still degraded more than i like to admit since I've started wearing them. Only when i have to mind. Didnt really twig to it when it started, but i did notice struggling to read from a bedside lamp maybe 4 years ago but with more light it was fine. Just thought i was getting old(er).
Back when I had my head injury in 2014, for the first few days out of the coma my eyesight was shit for the first half an hour or so after i woke up. like smearing vaseline all over a car windscreen.
The pressure on my brain had transferred to the blood vessels and nerves behind the eyes and given them a bollocking. I thought at the time it wouldn't do me any favours and still suspect that now.
As for shooting, i am starting to realise that yes my scopes need readjustment on my older rifles and after trying to sight in one of my old reliable 22s at a forum members range just before covid, my scope looked like shit. I had only just got it back from a good friend who had been looking after all my firearms when i was in aussie for 10 years so hadn't used it for a long time.
I just thought the old cheapie scope had crapped out.
well i found that scope the other day and looked through it with my reading glasses on and yeah it wasn't the scope haha.

your not alone mate.......it comes to us all..... recently adjusted all my scopes for my older eyes..havent resorted to glasses when shooting YET..but pretty much need them for anything under an arms length away... my driving glasses work for all ranges for now..can get by reading with them but cant drive with reading glasses.... some of the 1----1.25 cheapie glasses are rather good I can walk around happily wearing them.
sharpening ANYTHING now required glasses to get the best edge.

I've always shot with contact lenses.
I've always used daily disposables. In the last few years I have changed to toric lenses to adjust my astigmatism. I have noticed (including when I worse some yesterday for mountain biking, including crashing....) that the occasional lens is not that clear or doesn't rotate as it should, leading to worse vision! In the last year or so, I am starting to get age related close up vision issues, so this a real problem when trying to read case head stamps when on the range.
I have wondered about the new contacts that incorporate 'reading glass' type correction as well as distance, but one of our NZ experts told me they aren't that great at the moment.. :-/

I wear progressive lens glasses day to day, but wear monofocals for hunting as I don't want to lose peripheral vision or have issues when looking through a scope. It's a bit of a pain when looking at maps etc, but not the end of the world.

I don't like contact lenses and laser correction isn't an option for me.

Me 2, I now wear progesive lenses and they do improve my distance vision. In tight Bush I tent to not wear them but if I'm anywere open I will wear them.
However for shooting I just ensure the scope focus is set for me but I do need to wear then to adjust the parralex and dialing a scope. However any shots that require this are never going to be snap shots

I may be one of the lucky ones, I have some age related short sightedness & went to Spec Savers for something a bit better than the hobby glasses I was wearing, got bifocals rather than progs but to begin with they were a disaster, had been wearing #2 hobbies for some time, & able to read most things & see at a decent range too, so they gave me 1.75 /3.75. Just couldn't get with them, got a crook neck tipping head back to see the 'puter , but they were good at long range, a bugger going down stairs though. Went back to SS & had the 3.75 dropped to 3.25, slightly better but ended going back to my #2s. Have since graduated through #2.25s to #2.5s & am as happy as. Could probably handle some 2/2.75 bifocals, SS keep telling me my eye appointment is overdue but heck, I kind of can't see the point for me. Now hearing, that's another story. What?
