Flanged Bedding Pillar How-to - RimfireCentral.com Forums
Finally got my Vortex scope from Oz so raced into Broncoes to get the Vortex precision matched rings and bubble level to finish it all off. So far has shot multiple ragged holes with a 3-9 nighteater while waiting for the viper. 91gr of 2225 under a 300SMK are doing the business for now.
My new LR tube for the R8 walked in the door today
Threw the big Zeiss Diavari 6-24 on top, added a tac bolt knob & off we go

this is my Ruger American All Weather in 223. Weaver bases, weaver quad lock rings and Vortex Dimondback 4-12x40 BDC reticle.
First fired today, shoots well with Hornady training 55gr SP.
If i could have a full time job shooting pests i'm up for over time.
Devcon (or any other bedding compound) is not the answer. The barrel needs to be refitted semi-permanently to the receiver, check the crown, and a good trigger job. That will give the rifle the ability to shoot 1/2" groups at 50 metres. I have done literally hundreds of them over the years. It would also pay to check the barrel channel for tight spots. Instead of bedding, a wee packer washer cut from the lid of an ice cream container can be put between the stock and the receiver pad round the stock screw.
a plastic washer? you could get one from a blouser owner
