Bugger, thought I could get away with talley lows but I can't get correct eye relief without touching the barrel with the objective lens so looks like I will send them off to exchange for mediums, of course I had to somehow mount a scope though just to see how she will look, found some weaver bases and some Burris Z rings that some bugger (@sambnz ) has probably forgotten I have.... and mounted up my VX3, will look nicer with the one piece Talleys but I'm happy with it so far. Any recommendations for someone in canterbury to bed it for me?

Bedding is not hard, buy some epoxy and do it yourself. Savages are a little different, but this thread has some good advice and pictures glass bedding a savage bolt gun

Nathan foster sells match grade bedding compound or Brownells acraglass is easy to work with Workshop innovation is the cheapest I could see Gunsmithing &Reloading Tools - Acraglas Gel Kit, Stock Making, Bedding & Inleting

Ryan, the other thing to watch out for if you want to pillar bed a Sagave, is that the sear is in the way of the rear pillar. The sear has to be ground away to allow enough space around the pillar. The following link contains a photo of what it should look like. Savage Stock Bedding

thanks for that mate, yea I ran into that problem when I bought a bell and Carlson for my old 116 (270), the stock was pillar bedded and I could not for the life of me work out why the action wouldn't sit properly in it until I noticed that!
