I know a bloke that is the opposite, he has a VX6 on a savage axis 223, I tell him he needs to up his rifle game to suit his scope but in all fairness he is very successful with that little setup and bowls over deer with it every other week.

that should be the case in a perfect world

you don't need a lazer accurate rifle for general purpose hunting but you do need to be able to see what your shooting at sometimes in the worst lighting conditions possible
and that's when scopes get set apart its not those sunny perfect range days out in the open with plenty of light any scope will look ok there.... its 1/2 hour before dark in thick bush having good glass might mean the difference between getting your quarry or not

To be fair, the Axis may be the budget model from Savage but it still has a good reputation for accuracy. Not such a good reputation for being nice rifles, but from what I hear they do shoot straight.

Believe it or not I have had every swaro RIFLESCOPE I have owned fail, either by fogging or holding zero. Same goes for a longtime hunting mate.

Binos and spotters have been great.

And well I thought it sucked.
217 yards at dusk poor guy couldn't see a hind sitting in the scrub.
Might be ok for paper punching or day shooting if that's your thing.
Edit: I should add I went into it with with my mind open.

I think this whole Swaro v vortex v zeiss yadda yadda is much like when you buy a tv. Go into shop u can see all the models in one place..... Take one home, u then have nothing to compare it too, unless you buy 4 and sit them next to each other= unlikely for most of us.
If you own all of the above scopes and can sit them next to each other, at the same time then you're prolly much more likely to be accurate in your comparison, otherwise, memory bending, eye problems , dimentia , alstheimers, and monetary pride will have more of an effect on performance of scopes used at separate times. Also if you do use a shit scope, and do shoot some deer, and plenty do, you'll prolly have a much better opinion of said glass, just cos "it worked" .
That said, I DO want a Z3, maybe Mrs Santa will read this.

Not much wanking over guns going on only bullshit over optics
Don't buy Vortex only Kahles. All the rest are crap.

Another thing you might notice is you'll probably see more intelligent stuff if you sit there an and watch it without turning it on
