New toy arrived today! Howa Alpine Mountain Rifle in .308.
    5.7lbs bare.

Borrowing the Nikon Monarch off my .223 to start with, awesome as the qd rings swapped straight over.

In two minds whether to leave this on here and get a varmint type scope for the .223 or get a dedicated lightweight scope for this.

Apprentice Hunter checking out the optics!

@Spudattack I'll be keen to hear your thoughts on this one. I just bought one in 6.5 creedmoor, it's getting threaded ATM.

Very nice, all I can tell you is I love the feel and weight so far, still yet to fire it, hopefully tomorrow?

Who is doing the threading? I am interested but was worrying about touching up the cerakote afterwards? What can are you putting on?

Agree with your thoughts on the feel. Stock is very nice.
Imo it feels 6pound bare rather than 5.7

HnF is, which is a local engineering company that apparently can thread with out removing The barrel. That was my concern about having to retouch the finish (had bad experiences with a local smith.
Throwing the DPT from my 308 on it, pretty much dedicating it to being a gong gun.

Awesome, also worried about having the exposed steel where the thread is cut.

Looks a bit out of place amongst the blued steel and walnut!

I've asked for a thread protector to be cut at the same time, bearing in mind these are blued rifles.
I haven't shot mine either, should have some loads done for next weekend.
Was going to do a mini write up about them as I struggled to find any real info on them from a NZ perspective.
