Time to get backk into 3-gun, needed an open division shotgun to complete my open setup so have spent the last couple of months playing around and modifying a vepr-12. Runs like a dream now on 2.75 dram ammo. Should have done this years ago.

You would only need 1 mag for an average stage looking at the size of those mags

Have you tried shooting any aerial clays with it yet?

Well im a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to shotguns. I was brought up on an under over and s/s and thats what i spent my time shooting mainly. When i moved to a tube gun i transitioned pretty quickly but found that if a shotgun fits you properly then its much of a muchness. The box fed gun was a bit outside my comfort zone compared to what i was used to but i have to say that without the dot on it it points just as good as anything else i have picked up.

The dots only been on it for a couple of days but i have already found that with it turned on my eyes are reverting from a target focus to a "sights" focus, that alone is slowing my transitions down because im now aiming the gun and not pointing and following through like i used to. Example, if you put an array of 10 plates up from left to right in front of you then i would say the fastest way to shoot them is to start at one end and shoot them all one after the other consecutively without ever stopping the movement of the gun, the way to do that is to use a target focus (with a gun that fits) and just tap the trigger at the correct time as the gun swings through the arc of the plates. But with the dot switched on im finding myself moving from plate to plate, stopping the gun as my eyes revert from target to sights focus, making the shot then repeating the process for the next plate. Slow as shit compared to a target only focus.

As far as im concerned the only time you need to aim a shotgun and be aware of your sights is when you are shooting slugs. So im now thinking that i need to either lose the dot completely and sight the irons in for slugs or sight the dot in for slugs and just turn it off for those birdshot stages and shoot it like a normal shotgun. The gun hasnt been match tested yet and by the looks of it it wont be until the north island 3-gun champs so i will use that as a test bed. Want to go to the shotgun world shoot next year so have alot to think about and not much time.

No i havnt shot clays with it yet, but if it fits the shooter, points well and goes bang every time and you have the ability to change chokes then i cant see why it cant be competitive at any of the trap type matches available out there even compared to a 5k beretta. Although the patrons at the local trap club would probably frown at you, more so when you start cleaning them up!

You did answer my question actually. Your mention of a sight opposed to a target focus is why I asked.

I have tried myself to use a sighting aid on a shotgun but found it not only slowed me down it mucked with my overall technique.
Having shot to a reasonable standard in both sporting and skeet for over 20yrs I found that I was missing the simplest of targets on a range or in the field until I went back to what I knew.

I tried a red dot on a shotgun on Venison for a season at someone else's insistence.

I started out really well but after a while went to shit and went back to a clean gun.

I don't/cant use any sights at all now even for slugs and am hopefully back to what is natural.
Shotgun stages are my favorite of a 3gun match even tho the shooting is elementary I like being busier with stage and ammo management.

Getting TimeRiders rig set up for the Toby Shoot. It's almost as I was told to set it up. Will get a T3 on it a bit down the track, but while at gunworks organising the chamber work I noticed their fidget spinners on the counter, so for expedience got them to bung one on at the same time. Got her prone on the blunt end to set up the scope this afternoon.

Burris rings with +/-10 inserts.
Sightron SIII 6-24x50, MOA.
Harris bipod.

Not pictured is a Gunworks suppressor, but that will be left behind in favour of sharing the noise love.

Very much so. I did make sure that she kept Rushy happy by having the faulty bolt open for the photo.

My new terminator products 300 RUM.
Model 7 action and a factory rem barrel, stug stock, vx5 held on by talleys. And possibly the most important part- a terminator t2 to keep this thing bearable!!!

My load I'm running is getting the 230 bergers moving along at 2950fps.

3.3kg all up without the bipod!!!

This is my 4th terminator rifle and I couldn't be happier with all of them!
