Tried a scout scope for a while but being my bush gun decided it didn't really need a scope anyway.

Finally scratched the subsonic centrefire itch with the availability of Hornady Sub-X rounds (I don't reload). Went for 300BLK. I was considering 45/70, but had my reasons for going down this route. Will be used as a sub-50 metre bush rifle, mainly for goats. The setup also ticks a couple of other boxes. Takedown rifle and short overall gun length. If it doesn't work out, I'll switch to supersonic rounds.

    - Bergara BA13 300BLK 16.5 inch barrel
    - Leupold VX-3i 1.5-5x20mm
    - DPT Mini Over barrel .30cal

My first experience of subsonic centrefire. Louder than expected (!), but couldn't be heard from a 15 minute walk away. Rounds seemed quite dirty and smokey. Bipod was used just for zeroing. Typical group, squares are one inch in size. Could probably do better if I tried harder. Less than an inch difference at 10, 25 and 50 metres, so good to go!

Your not wrong there... thought I'd try subs through my 45/70 (no suppressor) thinking it might be a little quieter...yeah right...it still rumbled up and down the valley so much so the kids have knicknamed the rifle Thor - god of thunder..!

I have 6 baffles instead of four on mine , it definitely help to reduce that sound a bit more.
From the current zero at 50 yards,Try to see at what distance your bullet matches the bottom of the thin center cross joining the thicker bit of your duplex reticle. It could be useful if you ever have an animal to finish at further distance .

Just got this set up and zeroed. I'm really liking it so far, its a handy little package. The mag coupler is by VTP its a little bigger than necessary but it works well. I just need to get a suppressor for it now.

Going to be watching this closely. Are you waiting for the Jefferson Outdoor's bottom metal to arrive in NZ? Any idea who would be selling here?

New stick in the finest caliber known to man, she'll be getting new panties soon as I'm not a fan of the stock shape and rigidity.
Can't wait to get it sorted and begin load development.
Wears a Nikon monarch 3-12×40 bdc scope.
The dear will be lining up to be taken by such a fine piece of engineering.

Want to keep original wood in good nick and being a bush rifle it gets the odd knock. Half the reason why I made the leather stock wrap/ammo holder.
