The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

Don't forget to go to the police station and get a permit to procure.

It sounds like you know this guy? To me, he sounds like the type of person that should not be using a firearm.

I would advise you to take the rifle, Ammo and your account of the events to your local arms officer.

Yep. This isn't a wind fall. Its bizarre. And I don't think that you should be taking advantage of it.
I would be taking the gun to the police and explaining the story to them.
If its legit the guy shouldn't have a license.
