in that price bracket you can do better.
they are not a bad rifle they are just competing with some slightly better ones for similar money
unless you really want the paintjob go rock river or similar

Shame you dont rate them well as thats not too bad a price.
Who doesnt rate them? There is nothing wrong with them. In fact i am certain you wouldnt shoot any better with a RRA over an R15 over an Armalite over an NEA etc etc etc.
The paintjob or anodized finish is just a looks thing and has no bearing on function, the overall finish really only appeals to the vain side of any individual. Figure out what you want in an AR and go from there.

then get a free ecat if it ever happens.

a few of those r15s on the predator forum over in the states shot superbly, and remington do make good barrels
there reputation isnt that great compared with the other manufacturers and there price is similar

I would have happily baught one when I first saw them, I ended up with a RRA which aparently is better. Its been years since iv seen a remmy so I cant really rember what they look like finish wise

I have had both a RRA and a colt sitting on my lap at the same time, both unfired.
I couldnt see what the extra 2000 for the colt got you. the rra looked just as good.

you dont need to have them side by side to a Norinco to see how crap they are. even the Nea falls short in this aspect, its just the finish the factory decides on.

You can't see it because it is in the material of the rifle. Colt uses high quality, true mil spec components and testing protocols in their rifles, RRA generally doesn't. I have both so I'm not biased either way.

its a matter of trying a whole bunch of them - and as long as you follow some guidelines/advice from people who have used them (a lot) like what is listed back in this post

Thats what I'm going to do, try, listen and choose something mid range that I can build on - at least get the base right

The overall answer is called BRD I think

Depends what you want. If you want guaranteed quality of your bolt and barrel then yes. The retarded thing is, rifles of equal quality to Colt sell for the same or less than hobby guns in the US. It really makes no sense to buy a DPMS bolt for example when you can get a DD for slightly more, or the same. I bought a DPMS bolt recently, only because I couldn't get what I wanted. It's redundant now anyway so will end up in the spare parts bin.

In saying that most of the less significant parts on my latest build are DPMS

Except no-one imports them here, just the bargain rifles

They come in in dribs and drabs, usually just an upper, which is the most important bit anyway

But I don't get why people don't import them on the excuse of "well no-one would buy them" when they don't really cost much more than a non-milspec whatever rifle in the USA, and often have better features like nice free float handguards instead of clamshells, middy gas on 16" instead of carbine, 1:7" instead of 1:9", different barrel profiles/materials etc as well as the quality control + mil spec
