Just buy a tikka in 300 wsm change stock and you’re done. Seems pointless to have the saum when you have a rem mag.

If money is no object, then fine, go for it. If cost is a constraint, then look very carefully at the dollar cost per 50 ft./sec velocity, per 0.5” of drop, per 25 ft./lb energy, and of course per 50gr overall weight saved, compared to what you’ve already got. If you are thinking of selling your Browning, what is it worth in today’s depressed market? Probably not a great deal.

Compared to an off the shelf factory rifle, the true cost of those variables can be eye wateringly expensive, to you, a cost that few others would be prepared to pay if you came to sell the rifle later (semi custom rifles built on a budget rarely return their build cost as 2nd hand value.)

Tikka make the .300 WSM - talk to Beretta NZ about stock / future shipments.
Howa make several magnums, now available in carbon stocks. (That’s what I’d do - $2k, job done).

Just my 2c worth - I can’t see sufficient incentive for what you’re thinking of to be fair.

This build is about as relevant as you’ll find here - @stagstalker ‘s 7 SAUM built on a Rem 700.

Take a good look at the build spec and then maybe message him and ask him how much it cost!

It’s a beautiful rifle and in many ways the perfect hill country rifle for our conditions. But perfection is expensive, and can be technically tricky to achieve.

I get the attraction of playing with new calibres & projects. It’s a lot of fun but as others have noted can be expensive. So before you start make sure you are clear about your objectives & results you want to achieve. Are you after a hunting rifle ? Or more for gong shooting? If hunting, are you mostly bush hunting? Or open tops ? Are you hunting multi day expeditions or day trips or overnight? What distances are you hoping to shoot ? If it’s a hunting rifle then you want light & portable but retain accuracy & muzzle velocities to get distances you need. Personally I’ve settled on 20 - 22 in barrels as do it all hunting rifles, maybe 18in in some cases but trade off in speed/range. If you are thinking 7mm and you reload then there’s a few calibres that get you close to 3000fps with 162 pills out of 22in bbl. Yes SAUM is one, 284 or 280ai will do same & I’d look closely at new 7PRC also.
