don't lose the bolt though mags are not soo much of a biggie although you shouldn't lose ether in the bush carry it closed with an empty chamber and a full mag that ways its safe as but quick to load a round if need be and guess what the fuckin bolt cant fall out if you knock the release

The short answer. The Swedes factory barrel is too short at 24" and you can't get anymore velocity past about 44gn. The .260 hits about 2 clicks higher at 800m when optimized (std). Comparing almost identical tikkas in swede and .260. <Administering self inflicted uppercut for joining in!>

look at the info mate and work it out for yourself if your reloading its the better option for sure just look at speeds how much powder used etcetc
don't get me wong I love the 6.5x55 and owned a fair few from m96's to tikkas but if I was going to buy a new tikka tomorrow it would be 260 ive shot a few lately and read up on them and there's not much in it but I think (in my opinion) 260 has a small advantage over 6.5

Why is the 260 better than 6.5x55? I'm looking at a 6.5 for roe deer and moose over here, seems to be the done thing. An explanation in layman's terms would be appreciated if you have a second. Cheers.

Would have thought a 6.5x55 would be a miles better choice in Scandinavia just because you can get (or you used to be able to) cheap training ammo from the FSR guys

If you buy a 270 you will not be allowed to bag that caliber anymore, like the others said just buy it and leave it alone just shoot the bloody thing.

OK Toby I'll play your little game
To fix you tikka is easy you could either
    a) trade it in on a Blouser and carry a bag of plastic washers
    b) swap it for a Remington in 300RUM
    or even better
    c) keep the bloody thing as it will most likely shoot better than you (can but buy a spare bolt just in case)

My ideas where first of all get rid of the plastic fantastic stock and replace it with something like a Stug stock, then maybe a true filte tube chambered in 6.5x55 wouldn't hurt either. Next would be work on the action so I was thinking maybe replace the action with one of those ones from HRE and then it'd be like a New Zealand tikka aye.

Is that plan solid or what? Any help will be much appreciated

    Cheers

You could ask Dean Maisey what he thinks you should do with your Tikka, prolly do it quite quickly for you too....

@Toby. I get the thinking. A bit of fun sure, but, considering the current forum atmosphere probably not the wisest thread to start?
We need less shitty threads and more constructive ones. You've time to burn. Write up another good diving/fishing/hunting one. Raise the bar, not lower it.
