    Have to add twacking receivers are all on me -mental note- buy an upper vice block!!!

    Losen the lock ring(I use a bike bb lockring tool but a hammer and punch/screwdriver will do) and then the hand guard just spins of by hand. To then get the barrel nut of you need the factory tool or a large adjustable pin spanner or an block of wood with two nails driven through it as pins to font in the holes.
    Clamp the handgard while you do the lock ring and the barrel while you do the barrel nut if you don't have a block for the receiver. Lots of old rings on the receiver do the job of a block if needed.

    One of those jobs that seems easy once you have done it

    When you get it off, shout yourself a Midwest Gen 2 SS handguard. Put one on mine, so easy to remove for cleaning etc.

    It means you are torquing the barrel nut against the steel barrel extension not the alloy upper.

    A much better idea IMO
