This has left me questioning whether I should bother with one of the Henry single shot rifles. Maybe I’ll put that money towards a Howa in a chassis instead.

Anyone used one of their single shots?

I would rather be shot out of a cannon, than squeezed out of a tube.

Depends if the frame is proper metal-the ad says steel and brass but going from previous comments the brass on the l/a's are just a plating. They look a little nicer than say a H+R/New England. Maybe the Bergara single shot?
If you picked up a short barrel Rossi 92 in 44, I'm sure you would have as big a smile on your face as the Henry.

If you're thinking a single shot.

    Go for the Begara.

    Bloody popular down these ways

That sums it up nicely! A professional hunting guide I have known for many years used a Ruger semi-auto carbine with good success. I have shot a few deer and other beasties under 100 metres with the .44 Magnum and have had complete penetration on most of them. Chest shot deer will usually run on for about 15-20 metres before dropping but they are stone cold dead.

What projectiles are folks using for deer in their 44s?
