    Hornet!!

    OK - I lie, it's a "K Hornet".

This rifle has been lurking "unloved" in my cabinet for at least 5 years - at fault, wouldn't reliably cock. These rifles reputedly break sear springs so I sourced a replacement (also at least 5 years ago) but again according to the interweb, are a real bear to replace.

Certain events by other forumites (@akaroa1 and others) prompted me to take a new look at it. I spent some time on the internet and eventually I found a reassembly hack that looked like it might work.

Pulled the rifle to bits to find the sear spring intact but the trigger out of adjustment, which what was preventing it from cocking. The reassembly hack worked a treat and made me wonder why I'd waited so long to tackle it.

Sunday at the range I placed a few rounds on paper using a load my notes show I'd half-aased developed in 2014, a 45gn Hornady over AR2205 (H110?) at 2820fps.

It's a sweet rifle to shoot, the trigger (now in adjustment) is superb. And wow did it reward me, only one group but it'll do me!

Footnote - after all that I farken missed a magpie right out in front of the shed at 35M. Bugger!

@Tentman it's always good to double back and sort those nagging problems you would rather ignore
And when the fix is easy you feel stupid about all those years over thinking it

Ironic the internet told you what a problem it would be and also gave you the solution
So the internet is only as good as the questions you ask it

Now ask the internet how to shoot magpies at close range
Oh it was reputed to be very windy in southland this evening

Very nice , quite an effective caliber too, i have a old Walther in K Hornet with a 20 inch barrel which limits the velocity a bit but it still knocks rabbits about out to 150 to 200 yards if i get the holdover right. Love the fact you can load about 600 rounds from a pound of powder , very economical.

K-Hornet is a great little calibre. A significant step up from the standard Hornet case.
Your load looks to be going fine... but if you get keen try and find some Hodgen Lil'gun powder. You'll find you'll be able to step your velocities up.

I haven't shot my Brno Z465 k-hornet in some years. Its load is pushing 40gr v-max projectiles at a bit over 3100fps using lil'gun powder. Makes for a flat shooting magpie exploder...
    You cannot miss fast enough!

Gillie, in a std hornet using lill gun (13 gns) you can get 3000 fps with a 40 gn slug. So not a real increase in velocity. The k chamber may help with case life though.

If you can resize your cases with a Lee collet die they’ll last a lot longer. A Lee crimp die to even neck tension with the thin cases is the key to consistent accuracy.
