    Post Husqvarna 1600 Trigger Options

    Hi all,

I have a Husqvarna 1600 chambered in 6.5x55. The trigger is a real let down, and I am hoping to replace it with a Timney one (#301)

Just curious if anyone has fitted one of these into there M98 Husqvarna as I hear conflicting things about the safety.

    Thanks

Youre talking about two different animals there cob.
The Husky 1600 action is a small ring Mauser. The Timney replacement trigger for the 1600 has gone the way of the Dodo.
Whereas the 640 Husky action large ring uses the Timney FN 98 trigger.Make sure you order the correct trigger for what ever model Husky you have there

Good pick. Mine is 1640, so am certain that the FN 98 trigger should work. Am just curious if anyone has fitted them and ran into issues with the safety.
The stock requires, but have read mixed things online about the safety of the FN98 trigger and the husky not being compatible.

Nope you are still confused. The Husky model 1640 rifle uses a small ring mauser action made in Sweden called a model 1600 action. It has a side safety mounted on the right side of the receiver.
Whereas the Husky model 640 rifle uses a large ring Mauser model 98 commercial action made in Belgium by FN.It has its flag safety mounted up on the bolt striker. The two triggers are not interchangeable.
First thing you need to establish is if you have either a Husky model 1640 or model 640 rifle, then go from there

I had the exact rifle and could not get a replacement trigger which was a real shame as it a lovely rifle to shoot and carry. Even Mitch Maxberry couldn't get it to an acceptable level.
I'm trying to get to heaven before they shut the door.

    I have two Husqvarna 1640's i. 6.5x55.
I couldn't buy a better rifle without considerable expense.
Allan Carr did some magic on the triggers, and while not match triggers they are more than acceptable for hunting.

Steves wholesale is the agent for Timney you want the 95-6 SKU 203 or the 95-6 SKU 303, 203 is without safety 303 with safety

I agree, the rifle feels lovely and balanced when carrying it around the hills. Bugger about the triggers though, they require a hell of a yank. Shame about no aftermarket triggers, I might have to see what my local gunsmith can do.

I have been very impressed with mine (minus the trigger). Good to know Allan Carr was able to work his magic, hopefully I can find a Dunedin based gunsmith who can do the same

Thanks for the info Bluebaiter, it has been super helpful. Based on what you've said I believe mine is a 1640? Name: IMG20250310194603 (1).jpg

As above, Timney do make an after market trigger, may take some minimal extra inletting to fit it in to the stock, but bugger all. And if a Timney doesnt float your boat, it doesnt take much to make an original trigger lighter and crisp with a bit of polishing.

Post #10.Yes Dick your shooter is a model 1640 rifle built on a Husky model 1600 sporting action as per your happy snap. The Timney replacement trigger sku #303 is designed for the military M96 Mauser action for sporterizing into a scoped shooter. This will suffice in your Husky 1600 action but not utilize the original sliding safety. Many decades ago Timney did manufacture a Husky (HVA) 1600 action replacement trigger utilizing the factory side safety, but that product has long been discontinued. The #303 is the compromise solution that will require a little inletting if you are using the original Husky walnut stock.

Thanks, Blue, your help has been great in clearing up a lot of my confusion. Appreciate it
