Thing is I already have a nice long range hunting rifle, not that it's got much use in the last couple of years so the ability to do both is not high on my list of thing to think about.

Being short is very very high on my list. Suppressing is a must.
I do like the blazers a lot from a length point of veiw

That's high on the list! Going to have to have to ring doc Watson and have a chat about how he likes his

Would blow the budget tho so that's why I started this thread to see what smarter people than me think

So a standard length barrel is shorter still.
I just swap scopes and after the 20 seconds it takes me I am ethier shooting steel at 1000 or happy as poking around in the bush.
the loooong length of pull changes that a bit

I like short rifles, and for shooting stuff at 5-100m I don't see any advantage to a long tube.
And most of the deer I have shot have been at under 50m

How did your brother in law manage to completely fuck a rifle in a few months? Takes some doing ...

He dropped it overboard in saltwater, they got it back after a couple of hours looking with scuba and then just put it in a gun bag and back in his safe for six weeks. It still had the can on (tape over end of can) and there was a lot of salt water left inside.

The scope is the only thing that is of use.

It is a new style browning blr takedown

Yea, he only just got his licence so the whole gun thing is new to him.
It happened at the end of his first hunting trip and I think he was asleep on his feet when they got home.
I don't want to give him to much shit about it as it's an expensive lesion and I know his mates are calling him a new nickname because of it

I shoot good with my finlite out to 300m then it turns to custard coz my scope it 4 power fixed. Anything inside that range is pretty much dead most of the time. 300 m is a bloody long way in the scrub. Like I say u won't be disappointed, except for the price.

For a pure bush rifle I think I would like a short barrelled 338 Federal with an Aimpoint H1

I am not sure that I have ever been flabbergasted in my life but learning about someone whacking a rifle full of sea water into a safe has done it to me.
