That's how I feel now after my adventures with the ruger don't get me wrong it's built like a tank, part of the reason I bought it over a tikka. The thing is I don't want to go back down that road again

    Greetings @Haggis,
I think that the answer to the question is in your own post.
Why not keep the Ruger and buy either a Tikka or a Bergara in 6.5x55. I lusted after a nice new 6.5x55 for decades but nothing available. Did not want a .260 with its short mag and slow twist. 6.5 Creedmoor had yet to be invented. Finally I spotted that Tikka offered the cartridge in it's T3 Lite. Snap. Great rifle, nice and light with a 6 power scope and deadly accurate. I still have the .308 Remington I bought in the late 1970's and just walked back in from zeroing it for a shoot on Saturday. Neither rifle is going anywhere.

If you don't want a big banger but you want another rifle they are all good points.

A .280ai goes close to 7mm mag performance with lower recoil.
But if you found a 7x64 or .280rem they are close to what the .280ai is
I think Tikka make a 7x64 bit it's the age old problem of dearer dies, cases and maybe having to rebarrel something to get it.

Tikka are great but their magazine s are short/restrictive in any chambering.

I almost bought a Tikka CTR in .260, those mags offer a little more length.

    Greetings @CBH Australia,
The 6.5x55 Tikka has a long mag and I can load the 129 grain SST out to 78.5mm, close to the rifling. I think that this, plus the long projectile bearing surface, are some of the reasons for their excellent accuracy.

yes I have one forsale but thats not why Im suggesting it.
if you want MORE than the 308 will do,you need to jump quite a bit as its a very capable round.
I second this, the recoil won't be much different and you have a rifle for all game at all distances.

Its the first riffle I have owned and the last as it does everything and you will not regret being able to shoot those long ranges.
