One rifle to cover all the big game hunting I do across the country is basically just what I have now and have had in the past. A shortish 7mm shooting a 160 - 168gr pill.

284, 7mm RM, 7mm SAUM, 7mm PRC. Currently on the SAUM but i’m sure i’ll play with a PRC too when they come out.

I think all of us are approaching this from the wrong angle we are stating our rifles generally - one rifle - okay 12 gauge shotgun 6-7 shot smaller birds 3-4 shot ducks 2 shot rabbits geese buckshot goats- solid slug- everything else - (yes two barrels -one rifled )only one problem - convincing those silly DOC buggers to give you a special permit as a 12 gauge rifle

And not to be cheeky and to contribute to the thread for me its 7 saum lite rifle short barrel short action punches near the big 7 magnums performance with less powder leaps and bounds increase in knock down over the 6.5 and not far behind the 30 what more do I need.

thats about it- ammo availability - otherwise pretty much bang on- still think my 12 gauge idea though has merits if one was limited to one rifle

I love waterfowl hunting but tbh if I could only have one then my shotguns miss out and so do the birds. Big game has always been number one for me so being able to do what I currently do there would win in my priorities.

By shortish 7mm i’m referring to rifle/barrel length not cartridge dimensions.

Tell ya what I still have a soft spot for the 270 and I've had shit tonnes of other wizz bang cartridges but I have been really really impressed with the 243 for just being a good wee killer thats super easy to shoot, it inspires confidence and is very reliable for neck shots with those animals that are just a wee bit further away, easy to find decent factory ammunition etc etc. Really can't be bothered flinging lead at animals that are 400+yds away these days and anything closer is in a world of trouble with the 243 anyhow.
    270 is a harmonic divisor number[1]
270 is the fourth number that is divisible by its average integer divisor[2]
270 is a practical number, by the second definition
The sum of the coprime counts for the first 29 integers is 270
270 is a sparsely totient number, the largest integer with 72 as its totient
Given 6 elements, there are 270 square permutations[3]
    10! has 270 divisors
270 is the smallest positive integer that has divisors ending by digits 1, 2, …, 9.
