I do at times carry one...... and the rifled barrel .12ga is NO LONGER a shotgun..... any more than a .44 magnum is a shot gun because you can use snake loads in it.

I've got a permit to hunt pheasants in a local forest (with a shotgun), not allowed to carry slugs. pity as there is the odd fallow running around.

Sometimes I think the royal "they" like to make silly rules cause they can.

pheasants get pretty big....are there any restrictions on the size of pellets???? a couple of #7 buckshot would take care of any hard to kill "pheasants" quite nicely I would have though.....under 30 yards a load of #BBs would do too

308 for me.

I think its about the maximum in the recoil department that most people can handle well. It is an accurate cartridge with a myriad of projectile choices and is not powder specific to get good results from.I never feel I should have taken something else out when I head off with a 308.

Get me one in a double and I’d be more than happy QD mounts with a scope for out long and reddot for tight bush.
Cover me ele to possums (got to love the instant pluck)
Also handy in that broken down there easy to transport.

Also its pre owned hence a steal at $124,500 USD it's cheap because someone else has had their dirty mitts on it already.

Actually if you are going the 375 Double rifle one gun route you really should drop the 375 H&H belted case and go with the 375 H&H Flanged Magnum case.
Just a more betterer option in a double rifle

But rich for my taste @akaroa mine was list price at £3000 to £5000 plus vat so could have got it for £3600 plus vat. Which imo is not too bad for a H&H.
Would never buy directly from the shop unless I won the Euro millions. Even then maybe not.

The flanged 375 flanged magnum in a bobble so long as you don’t make the mistake of getting the 375 flanged
I’d even look at the 9x74r almost as good! Might be a bit harder to find ammo but hey the op never put a budget constraint on this thread

Another for the 708. Mines good for 5-500 yds. Point and shoot to 220yds. Easy to dial after that. 16” barrel. 140 bt at 2580 or a 120gn at 2900. Plenty of killing power for anything.

223 would be a close second.

"No Buckshot or slugs" Is the wording in the permit. They do give you permission to shot cats, rats possums and stoats so that's nice

you are taking the mikey right right

6.5, 7mm or 300 saum. Currently running the 300 and loving it, if I was to re-barrel I'd have to give the 6.5 serious consideration, high velocity, high bc, at low pressure.
