Well that was easier than I anticipated. Permit arrived 1 week after applying. No conditions

Good result. Did you give a reason in the end for the permit?

So all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about supposed restrictions by the cops was all for nothing?

"The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Oh...wait it hasn't. He got the permit"

No I think what has happened here is somebody who isn't in the political loop has just gone and done it.

Put aside your BS bias: have the police acted ultra vires previously? You bet....based on the information presented, was the reaction from an interested COMMUNITY (the part you never seem to understand) realistic? You bet. The point is, if a group of people are likely to be similarly affected, what do you expect the reaction to be?
Now; if you don't feel the same way, or believe that the reaction is overstated, perhaps you should find a forum where you are more comfortable: perhaps a knitting forum or one that deals with cats (read pussies)? Just a suggestion: no need for hand wringing or gnashing of teeth....

    This is happening.

With the last two or three import permits I've applied for & got in the last few months, I was specifically asked if they were for building or were 50 cals......

One went away & came back, wasn't going to be approved without confirmation.
