Quick dig to say I'm still waiting on hearing something regarding my permit. I'm assuming it is mailed to me?

Or your AO will contact you to collect it.

Newbie qeustion. I have an a-cat ar15, am I able to import 10 round pmags and pin them to 7? Just a bit of threaded rod blocks them to 7 so it's easy done. Just wondered about the importing side

    No.

I've asked this but was informed they must be 7rnd when entering NZ, for A-Cat.

I may be wrong here, but you dont need an E endorsement to buy 20rnd mags, as long as they stay away from your bang stick until such time you do have an E for it...
or you could use them in a Mossberg MVP.223 bolt action...

No, i think if you own a A cat gun the mags will fit in you cannot have possession or access to any mag holding more than 7 rounds. So the way i read it you can buy 7+ mags no problem as long as you dont have a semi-auto, ask your AO.

No, pretty sure the new law says the mags must not appear to hold more than 7 rounds, period. If you get them delivered to a gunsmith who physically shortens them for you, and then hands them over, maybe OK, but that isnt economic. Just buy 5s or maybe the Spear's 7 rounders, about $65 I think.

Yes service rifle competition should be valid enough a reason*. Id suggest going along to the WSRA shoots WSRA I think you can shoot 5 times a year for all of $25 associate membership, or $85 full.

I am about to go myself, planning to, for the 31st August shoot.

*Ive asked my AO if I can import a bayonet as the competiton I want to shoot in December requires one is fitted but I dont have one for my Pattern14 gun. The AO seemed happy enough as that was a valid enough reason, but Im supposed to try and get one here first, which I will if I can, but Ive not seen one for sale in the months I have been looking.

Steven just found this so explains it better. Yes are aloud ten shots but must be pinned to 7 before Nz,

"Centre fire Semi-automatic magazines that look like they hold 10 rounds will now be allowed, although they can still only hold a maximum of 7 rounds. (Rimfire capacity has not changed). This may seem a minor concession, but in fact it makes it easier to obtain magazines. Production 10 round magazines exist for many semi-auto rifles, but not usually 7 round. Our importers will be able to bring in (modified) 10 round magazines, provided they are pinned or modified to 7 rounds before arrival on NZ shores. "

You can have a mag that appears to hold 10, as long as it only holds 7. "Appears to hold" is a hilariously stupid subjective metric

Would have been much better if they increased the limit from 7 to 10 to align us with the manufacturers (-:
