    Importing from the mighty USA

I'm looking at importing a scope mount and a few other bits and pieces from Geissele.com and a few other sites that won't ship internationally but I have family in California they will ship to, from there do you know how to go about shipping? Will it be hassle free since it's just from my family or will I have to pay export fees and import fees plus gst?

What are the 'few other bits and pieces'?
ITAR rules around firearms parts are vigorously enforced.
California also has strict rules around firearms.

Pistol grip, possibly a scope, is it enforced for these too?

California probably has the strictest laws. No removable magazines or pistol grips on new semis sold in state.
Pistol grip might not be an option for them. In saying that as a separate item to a rifle maybe it would be okay to send to the rellies.

As long as the scope isn't ITAR restricted it should be fine to send to any state and should be fine for them to export

I've never had a problem importing scopes from the states apart from a new tactical leupold scope. They are restricted for some strange reason

I had issues in California and Hawaii last year with some scopes.

Some of the ones I wanted to buy were on the ITAR list so the sellers wouldn't sell them to me knowing I was going to take them out of the country.

    Cheers

You might be asked for a "please explain" from the retailer when shipping items to a US address but paying with a foreign card. This has been my experience at least.

Easier to just get the mount from a seller wiling to export to NZ, ie Opticzone or Opticsplanet.

    Have you tried Brownells.com?

Some freight forwarders will send on gun related gear, most won't. You have to message them and ask, they don't advertise it..........

Brownells has recently tacked on a $250 US state department fee for restricted items.
Used to be cheap from them, not anymore.

Really? I ordered some gear last month, gun parts which totalled under $100 and it came through, didn't get charged any $250 fee, just postage.

Depends what you get. For example a receiver is a restricted item. So is a standard capacity magazine I believe.
They also don't send any Magpul either but that's apparently for different reasons
