A fluted bolt and factory shortened barrel? I also had a Montana in 243 for a good chunk of the period I have had my Adirondack and the weight difference between the two was negligible and there was no stock issues on the Montana.
I’m of the same opinion. The stock finish on the Montana is far superior.

Is there a gunsmith in nz that specialises in Kimber's and making them tick?

They have an accuracy guarantee Bill, however all the ones I have had have shot very well. Though I do know of a few lemons in the USA a few years back. What I like about the Kimbers as they are ready to go right off the shelf (lightweight stock etc). I would definitely buy another. Do you have one that is not shooting Bill?

Not at all, I have a rebarrel on the cards when a caliber I am interested in finally gets rolled out
the factory one I have(243win) clover leafs winchester factory at 100

I picked up a second one for the action/stock second hand that is also 243 so I have no interest in using it till I rebarrel

If there was someone in particular that knows their stuff Id be inclined to go with them
Iv used both gunworks and trueflight in the past and both were fantastic but seeing as it looks like I have to source my own barrel its not going to lock me in to any smith in particular

Nice, yeah they are a sweet rifle in .243. The cartridge makes a lot of sense in a rifle that light. I see why you are asking about the smith now. Intriguing.....Any hints on what your building? I always liked the idea of building a fast twist 22/250 on one

I have been waiting for the 8.6creedmore/338blackout to happen for about two years, 12.5-16 inch barrel depending on what twist I can get, preferably 1-3 to 1-6
Basically a 338federal but fits the mag better, subs and supers just like 300blk but bigger
I sway all the time between 308,6.5 creed,260 because it's taking so long but if it comes factory in the caliber I'll just get one of those at a later stage. Probably in a hunter and share a carbon stock with whatever I'm not using at that time

Sounds pretty sweet Bill, be perfect for those Northland paddock destroyers. Might even be able to get a couple before they make it to the gorse lol. Does the donor kimber shoot?

I haven't fired a shot thru it yet but plan to keep the barrel in case I ever shoot my current main rifle out
Iv put a vx3 2.5-8 in low talley rings and with its low diameter gunworks deriliam suppressor it's a damn nice rifle in its own right
The problem is I'll take the vx6 2-12 and Oceania defence titanium suppressor 243 every time instead
