Thread: Leica amplus 6 3-18x44 L-4w

Getting the scope itch again and was looking at upgrading in the near future. Haven't had the chance to look through the leica but if it's anything like the magnus then it sounds pretty good. I've looked through Zeiss V8, Swarovski Z8i (I have a meopta R2) and these are top notch glass. What I like about the leica is that it is small in profile, it has the wind reticle, good turret, and is cheaper lol. If the magnus came in a 3-18 power then I'd get it but unfortunately it doesn't. I've worked my whole working life with leica instruments (surveying) so it's sort of sentimental as well although that swarovski glass mmmm. Anyway enough blabbing, anyone looked through the leica Amplus 6 3-18x44 i? Thoughts?

They are pretty good. They are not a Magnus. Magnus are made in Germany and the fortis and amplus are made in Portugal. I have used a 3-18. I would say they are in the same class as a Japanese made scope like the vx6 or razor LHT. They are nice but no where near the refinement of the Magnus at $5k

Cheers Cowboy. Haven't looked through a magnus yet. The reviews for the amplus sound great. Compared the swarovski z8i and the zeiss v8 with a mate and to my eyes and his the z8i was better but my mate brought the v8 because it was cheaper lol. The magnus sounds great and because of my work with leica equipment over the last 30 odd years I thought I might give it a go. Just not 100% sure how the both models would compare against the swarovski. But bring leica I guess not far off
