Greetings All,
I am glad this thread has generated some discussion. There are a couple of points that need to be made. Firearms are not like normal property. Our firearms liscence gives us the authority to own and use firearms. It also requires us to take steps to stop them falling into the wrong hands. Once we have left the scene it becomes the Police's responsibility to ensure the firearms do not fall into the wrong hands. It is not the role of the police to ensure that firearms are disposed of in accordance with our wishes it is ours. We all need to take steps to ensure that this happens. Both a primary and back up plan is needed. Part of these plans should involve handing on or selling firearms that are surplus to requirements while we are still able. This is something that I need to do over the coming years.

I had made a commitment to myself to get rid of any "surplus" before the introduction of the gangs' shopping list, sorry firearms register.

I thought I had better check on disposal when LFO dies.
This is from the Arms Code.

What to do if the firearms licencee dies
As a responsible firearm licence holder, you need to make
provision for the disposal of your firearms before the event
of your death.
It is your duty to inform your next of kin and legal
representatives of how to legally dispose of the firearms.
These arrangements consist of advising the local Arms
Officer of the death and surrendering the firearms to the
Police, a dealer or another licence holder until provision
can be made for final disposal.
If you own a pistol, MSSA, or restricted weapon, your
personal representative, or any other person who takes
possession of the firearm, must immediately notify the
Police of
(a) The death; and
(b) The location of the pistol, MSSA or restricted weapon.
Prompt action must be taken to ensure that these types
of firearms are all accounted for and are transferred to a
person with the appropriate endorsement type and security

Probably should have looked up myself. I have two LFO's lined up for the job so all should be good, in the fullness of time.

Greetings Micky,
During one of the relicensing rounds. my son had ordered a Remington heavy single shot 22-250. Of course it turned up while my son and I were between licences. My dearly beloved was sent in and the chaps in the gun shop loaded it into her car for her and probably had a good laugh about it as well.

That’s part of the reason Mrs Finnwolf got her licence - that and being able to take her rifle for a walk a.k.a hunting!

my .223 has taught me lots of lessons over the years
how a well placed tiny little projectile drops animals stone dead..aim small
that sometimes simple is best.
that a good solid reliable scope is gold....
changed out stock for lighter version...fired couple of shots in anger,scratched the itch,came home and fitted the old heavy one back on...it works so loath to muck around with it....

that scope's can bite :p that a 303 no drill and tap mount and jump off and split your eyebrow open
