Forgive my ignorance but I have never understood why you would have a sling that wraps around the barrel when there's a perfectly good sling stud to use. Can't use it as a brace either due to loading up the barrel.
What's the benefit of that type over a stud attachment?

I cant answer for MSL, but my reasons are: Barrel sits lower and doesnt catch, so a long barrel still carries easily. lowers centre of gravity / balance point of rifle so it 'hangs' and doesnt swjng, creates a pinch point that locks the sling to the shoulder. Try it !

Have a leather one with a wide section for the shoulder. But the wide edges off so it's now 1" the whole length.

It's good if the 1" wide strap of leather has some holes in it for adjustment.

I also have quite a few bits of strapping tied to my rifle with a rolling hitch (knot that slides only when you want it to) for adjustment.

    this

I get sling swivels and take them to my horse shooer and leather man
they usually have dark and light leather the dark definitely looks better
cost me about $40 mates rates for the bits and bobs and to put it together

strong so you can use them as a single wrap for stabilizing a standing shot too

All of the above, but it also leaves the sling stud available to attach a bipod without having to remove the sling first

I would want very strong bedding before I carried off the barrel.

I run these slings on all my rifles now. Have been using them for over 10 years and wouldn't bother with any other types:
    https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/quak...shotgun-slings

I used to use neoprene padded ones, but found they held moisture and always got cold/wet hands when hunting in winter, snow, rain, etc. as the moisture would transfer.

Only drawback is they are near on impossible to find local, easier to get off the internet from USA/Canada.
Hunting is not a hobby.....its an addiction
